Today is an "A"  Day  

A reminder to all students: There will be NO late buses available on Monday, Wednesday or Friday afternoons this school year. Students are asked to get on their PM bus immediately following dismissal on these days or be sure to make other arrangements for transportation on these days.     

Overdrive is now available! - A new reading service providing digital books and audio books is available for students K- 12. from our BOCES School Library.  From your library's online catalog, you can download books to your computer, IPod, IPad, Nook, Kindle or Smartphone with your library number.  If you are interested, stop in the library for your library number.

The Second Annual LukeStrong Olympics is being held on June 5th at the Shen track and field at 6:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.  Everyone is welcome to attend!  Come and cheer on your classmates. If you are not on a team there are events for spectators to participate in.  There will be a mandatory Captains meeting held on Wednesday, June 30th in the "Fridge" at 2:45 p.m.

There will  be five jars set up outside the cafeteria from now until LukeStrong Olympics on June 5th. Jars for Mr. Heckman, Mr. Foederer, Mr. Conley, Mr. Edson and Mr. Bain.  Whichever jar has the most money in it by LukeStrong Olympics that person will have to shave their heads at the event.  All proceeds go towards sending a 16 year old girl with Cystic Fibrosis to the summer Olympics.  Make sure to fill the jar with money of the person you want to see bald!

SADD Club-  those students who received and completed the CONTRACT for LIFE from SADD Club should return these to the Main Office (East and West).  They will be forwarded to Mrs. Burns for the raffle drawing.

Shen Art Show- It is my pleasure to announce and invite you to the Shenendehowa Art Department’s Annual K-12 Art Show.  This year our show is held at Clifton Park Center in the store front which formerly housed “The Cotton Market”. The exhibit features outstanding artwork from Shen students across every building and grade level.

Club News

Peace Program- is looking for students to host a student from France for 2 weeks this fall.  If you are interested, please see Ms. Bonventre in the South workroom.

International Club has placed Hope Phone boxes around the school.  Do you have old, broken cell phones? Care to donate them? Drop them off in any of our Hope Phone boxes throughout the school.  These phones will go to people suffering extreme poverty in Africa.

International Club is having a fundraiser at 16 Candles on May 29th from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A percentage of the money spent on frozen yogurt will be given to help orphaned children in Africa. Please come and support our cause and enjoy some frozen yogurt.

Attention Students interested in joining the Yearbook Club:   If you are interested in joining the Yearbook Club next year there are applications in the main office at this time.  You need to complete the application, acquire two references from current teachers, and have your parent sign the application. Turn in the completed application by May 24 to the main office. You must join the Yearbook Club as a sophomore to be a member during all your high school years.

Photo Club-  Photo Club meets Thursdays at HSE. We will meet after school in Room 115 HSE.

Spanish Club- is super cool! so come on Thursdays after school in room 226 of HSE. All are welcome to attend! Come for snacks and a super fun time! 

Ping Pong- Shen's famous Ping Pong Club will meet in the back hallway Tuesdays at 3:00 pm. Remember to bring your own paddle and ping pong balls. 1.00 dollar due from each member.

HSE Art Club- will meet Tuesdays in Room 113 from 2:50 pm to 3:50 pm. All are welcome! Enjoy the Open Studio opportunity. We shall be working on our Surrealist collages. 

Prayer Club- for all students interested in becoming members of the Shen Prayer Club, join us Friday mornings in room 161 at 7:20 am of HSE..

Anime Club-  Do you love Japanese animation? Please come to one of our last two meetings held in the little theater on Tuesdays. If you are thinking of joining this is a great time to attend.  We will choose a Presidents for next year's Anime Club.

Creative Writing Club - Graduating seniors who have been part of our club are especially encouraged to attend whatever May meetings they are able to make, and as always, all are welcome to attend.  Join us on Thursday's in HSW. Please meet first in the cafeteria.

SADD Club-  SADD Club meets Tuesdays, at 3:00 pm in High School West Room 42. The Club is open to all students in grades 9-12. New members and guests are always welcome. Please meet in the cafeteria first.

Broadcasting Club- are you interested in interviewing, video editing, cameras and news? Join the Shen Broadcasting Club! Meetings are at 3:00 pm every Tuesday, see Mr. Salls for details in Room 130.

Fruits of Our Labor Club- We will meet Thursday in Room 127 of High School East. Come and join us. Everyone is welcome to attend.

SCARCE Club- Students Concerned About "R" Crippled Environment is looking for members. Help make HSE more sustainable. They meet on Tuesdays after school in HSE at 3:00 pm in room 127. Students are involved in activities that help our school reduce, reuse and recycle. We hope to reduce our carbon footprint. New!!! The can crusher has been installed!

Got Old Sneakers? The freshmen Breakfast Club is collecting old worn out sneakers!  The drive will run from May 14th to June 6th.  These sneakers will be sold for scrap rubber and the money will benefit the Quest for Grace Foundation which provides clothing and goods to foster children. So, empty out your closets and bring in your old sneakers to help someone in need. Thank you!  HSE there is a box in the front lobby!

Class of 2012- Seniors

Seniors, caps and gowns for graduation will be distributed on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 22nd and 23rd.  Representatives from Herff Jones will be located in the auditorium from 9:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. to distribute your cap and gown.  Seniors don't forget to bring payment when you pick up your cap and gown.  The rental cost is $21.00, cash preferred.

The Senior Ball will be held at the Albany Convention Center on June 2nd!  Tickets are on sale now and are being sold behind the cafeteria. They are $55.00.

All Seniors must complete the Senior Questionnaire in Naviance, Family Connections by May 21st.  The survey must be completed in order to pick up your graduation cap and gown.  The survey provides the Counseling Center with your post high school plan and final transcript information.  Directions are on the Naviance page.

NHS Scholarship applications are now available in the Counseling Center. Please check it out!

The Irish Fest is coming! - Come to a very special Irish Celebration in the Auditorium Periods 3,4,5 on Thursday, May 24th, 2012.

From your friendly food service staff-  there will be no yellow cards issued and there will be no borrowing on your accounts. Please be aware of what your balances are and adjust your accounts accordingly.  There will be no exceptions. PB and J will be offered as a lunch. There is no borrowing for seniors as of May 22nd.

Class of 2013 Juniors

AP Biology 2012/2013-  attention all students taking AP Biology next year.  There will be a meeting to receive your summer assignment on Tuesday, June 5th at 2:45 in room 220 of HSE.  This meeting is mandatory.  If you are unable to attend you must see Mrs. Moore in room 126 or Mrs. August in room 220 prior to June 5th

Class of 2014 - Sophomores

Attn Sophomores: Review sessions for the Global History Regents exam will be offered every Tuesday and Thursday starting May 15th. The sessions will be in room 242 starting at 3:00 p.m.

Sophomore Class Council- meet Thursdays, after school in Room 121. Did you miss this meeting or have a Question? See Ms. Pfaffenbach or Mrs. Connelly in the North Workroom.

Earth Science Review Classes have been scheduled!  Take advantage of these class offerings.  Be better prepared for your Earth Science Regents.  Classes are held every Tuesday and Thursday, beginning May 15th through June 7th. (one exception- no class on 5/24). Late buses are available on these days.

The next HSW Library Book Discussion for the month of May will be held on Thursday, May 24th. We meet in the Computer Lab area. All faculty, staff and students are welcome to attend.

HOMEWORK CLUB- attention all 9th grade students!  Last week to attend homework club.  Please feel free to go to review classes being offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Respect Club High School West- Enjoy music? Enjoy Art? Enjoy helping others and making a difference? See Ms. Hulme in room 43 if you have any questions.

Intramurals-  need to make up a gym class?  HSW offers intramurals will be held Monday, Tuesday and Thursday of this week from 2:45 to 3:30.

Sports

JV and Varsity Golf- There will be a mandatory meeting for all students interested in playing JV or Varsity Golf on Thursday, June 5th at 3"00 ;.m. in the High School East room 120.

Congrats to the Girls Track and Field Team for an excellent showing at JV Championships.  Individual winners were Olivia Bowles in the triple jump, Karris Moore in the 100M and Rachel Anomie in the Pole Vault. Runners up were Haley Hales in the high jump and the 4X100M relay of Anomie, Moore, Bowles and Barrett.

Shen Crew Club had four boats medal at the State Championships this weekend.  The Freshman Boys 4 won silver and the Varsity Girls Varsity 8 and 2ndV8 and Boys Lightweight won bronze.  Congratulations to all and good luck at Nationals!

The Varsity Girls Track and Field Team crushed the competition at this weekends Middletown Invite.  Individual winners were Madison Weekes in the Pole Vault and Lizzie Premier in the 1500M.  Congrats to the Girls Team Championship.

Girls Basketball Open Gym  will be held every Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the High school East Main Gym.  If you have any questions please see Coach Murphy.
