Board Education Policy Manual -
We are in the process of reviewing all policies and as they are approved by the
board of education, we will be putting them on the website. (The current
manual is available in the superintendent's office). |

The Board
of Education has established an electronic mailbox to
receive comments, ideas and suggestions at
boe@shenet.org. Mail is
forwarded to all members and the superintendent of schools
approximately once a week. If you have a specific question,
please contact the school or department directly. |

SCHOOL BOARD MEETINGS |
|
Regular
meetings
of
the
Board
of
Education
are
held
in
the
library
located
at
Gowana
Middle
School
at
7:00
p.m.
on
the
second
and
fourth
Tuesday
of
each
month.
Other
meetings
of
the
board
are
scheduled
as
needed
during
the
year.
All
meetings
are
open
to
the
public.
Order
of
Business
Meetings
of
the
Board
of
Education
follow
a
prepared
agenda.
Copies
of
the
agenda
are
available
to
the
public
at
each
meeting
and
are
posted
at
the
district
office
on
the
Friday
prior
to
the
meeting.
Shenendehowa's
board
conducts
two
types
of
meetings,
business
and
study
sessions.
During
a
business
session,
the
board
officially
votes
on
particular
items
on
the
agenda.
During
a
study
session,
the
board
receives
information
however
no
action
is
taken.
The
board
also
meets
in
executive
session
to
discuss
personnel
matters,
labor
negotiations
and
other
items
that
are
confidential
as
defined
by
the
Open
Meeting
Law
of
the
State
of
New
York.
Executive
sessions
are
closed
to
the
public;
however,
any
formal
action
on
the
passage
of
any
resolution
must
be
taken
in
open
public
session.
Public
participation
Persons
wishing
to
address
the
Board
of
Education
can
do
so
during
the
"public
comment"
section
at
the
beginning
of
the
agenda.
Speakers
are
requested
to
state
their
name
and
address
and
identify
the
organization,
if
any,
they
represent.
The
president
may
suggest
that
speakers
confine
their
remarks
to
a
certain
period
of
time
in
order
to
provide
an
opportunity
for
others
to
speak.
Public
comment
provides
a
way
for
residents
to
address
the
Board
of
Education
publicly.
Residents
wishing
to
"discuss"
an
issue
or
receive
more
information
regarding
a
particular
concern
should
contact
a
board
member
or
a
district
administrator
directly.

SCHOOL BOARDS |
|
The Board of Education is made up of seven unsalaried
citizens elected to serve a three-year term. The board's powers and duties are
derived from the New York State Constitution, the laws of New York State and the
rulings of the New York State Commissioner of Education. The
Board of Education's main areas of responsibility are:

Establish district policies.
-
Develop an annual budget for public approval.

Vote on the Superintendent's recommendations on personnel
matters and contracts.

Review courses of study and textbooks.
-
Act as a communication link between residents and the
Superintendent.
No person or group of persons acts in the name of the
board. All motions require a majority vote before the Board can act. A board
member is in an official capacity only during an official Board meeting. The Board employs a Superintendent who is responsible for
the day-to-day operation of the district and administration of Board policies.
The Superintendent develops policies, programs and plans for Board action.
Board Members
 Janet Grey,
President,
of
Clifton Park, is serving her second term on the
Board. She is a stay-at-home mom who formerly worked as a human
resource professional. She holds a bachelor's degree in psychology
and sociology and a minor in women's studies from SUNY Oswego. She
also has post-graduate coursework in human resource management.
She and her husband have two children, both attend Shenendehowa.
Term exp. 6/30/09.

Sharon
B. Bowles, Vice President, of Clifton Park, is serving her first full term
on the school board (she served one year prior in the seat
vacated by Erika Reibel). She is a labor and employment attorney
for the N.Y.S. Office of Court Administration and formerly
worked as an attorney for the state education department. She
holds a bachelor’s degree in politics from Princeton University
and a juris doctorate degree from Columbia University School of
Law. She and her husband, have two children all of whom attend
Shenendehowa. Term exp. 6/30/09.
Mary
Blaauboer,
of Clifton Park, is serving her first term on the school board.
She is the former director of personnel at the College of Saint
Rose. She has a bachelors degree in public administration
with a minor in human resources management from Stonehill
College in Massachusetts and additional coursework towards a
Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS). She and her
husband, Jim, have two children who attend Shenendehowa.

William
Casey,
of Clifton Park, is serving his third nonconsecutive term. He is the
executive director of CAPTAIN, an area youth shelter for teens. He
previously served on the Board of Education at Shenendehowa
(1988-1991).

Gary
A.
DiLallo,
of
Clifton
Park,
is
serving
a
second
term
on
the
board.
He
is
a
retired
school
teacher
who
taught
secondary
social
studies
at
Mechanicville
City
Schools.
He
holds
a
bachelor’s
degree
from
McNesse
State
University
and
a
master’s
degree
in
educational
administration,
sociology
and
psychology
from
Louisiana
State
University.
He
and
his
wife
have
three
children who have graduated
Shenendehowa.
Term exp. 6/30/10.
Richard
Mincher
of Rexford, is serving a first term on the board. He is president
of Five Barns Poetry and has an associated degree from SUNY Delhi
in civil technology. He and his wife have one child who attends
Shenendehowa.

6/30/10.
Mary Wiggins,
of Clifton Park, is serving her
first term on the board. She is a stay-at-home mother.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in Computer Information
Systems from The College of Saint Rose. She and her
husband have three children, all of whom have
graduated from Shenendehowa.
Term exp. 6/30/11.
