In April Mrs. Allen's class invited Parents
and friends into the classroom for their ‘Wax Museum’. The
children researched a person of interest and wrote a 5 paragraph
essay, made a windsock, a biopoem and held a wax museum showcasing
our famous people.

wrote informational How-To books. The students enjoyed writing
steps for all the things they know how to do!

QUEST students in Shatekon use math and problem-solving skills to program Lego Robotics.
Teams from three elementary schools competed in a reading tournament in the Tesago cafeteria on March 8. Shen Kids Read was modeled after the “Battle of the Books” competitions, and involved students answering questions about several books in a game show fashion. The teams were comprised of five 5th graders from Okte, Tesago, and Shatekon that had won their own respective school competitions. Their school library media specialists served as coaches, and the event was moderated by Skano librarian Susan Kirby LeMon.

Author of the popular Lunch Lady and Punk Farm
books visited Shatekon on Wednesday, February 29th. He discussed
his work as a writer and illustrator as well as autographed books
that the students had purchased.
Fourth grader, Stephanie Dickert won first place for her writing piece she did in Shenendehowa’s Reflections program. Congratulations to Stephanie for all her hard work!!!

Author Jarrett Krosoczka will be visiting grades 2-5 at Shatekon Elementary school on February 29. Jarrett comes to us from Northhampton MA, and is a graduate of the Rhode island School of Design. He is the author of the Punk Farm picture books and the very popular Lunch Lady graphic novels.

a 20 foot dragon to celebrate the Chinese new Year. On January 23,

We are pleased to announce that Erica Ryan was appointed as the principal of Shatekon Elementary School by the Board of Education. Currently, she serves as an elementary principal in the Duanesburg Central School District. Previously she worked at Shenendehowa in Skano Elementary school, first as a literacy specialist and then as an academic administrator. Prior to that she taught in the Taconic Hills and Cohoes school districts. She has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the State University College at Oswego. She received a master’s degree in literacy and administrative certification from the State University at Albany. She is scheduled to start on Monday, February 27.

On January 18th the Shatekon library hosted its first annual Battle of the Books for 5th graders. Four teams from each class competed in a spirited competition demonstrating what amazing readers they are!
